So you want to be a writer?

If you’ve been at it for any time at all, you’ve likely discovered that it’s hard.

Really hard.

It’s not just you. Any writer will tell you it’s and endless struggle.

You know what you want (need) to write. Sit down to get to work.

Pretty soon the day is over and there’s nothing done.

Distractions.

Whatever the reason is, at the end of the working day there aren’t enough words on the page.

When people ask how my writing is going

You’ve read “tips” or “hacks”

Eliminate distractions
Pomodoro technique
Dictation
Read how to and inspirational books and articles.

On and on.

But there’s no words on the page.

Routines, inspirational reading, “sprints”

They can all help. But they won’t do the writing for you.

But the only way to get where you want is to write.

Obvious, but true.

Just write.

On letter in front of the other, one word after another.

Sentences become paragraphs.

Paragraphs became pages.

Pages become sections, chapters, articles.

Your masterpiece will be written one keystroke at a time.

Just keep writing.

It’s a discipline.

Just sit your ass in front of your computer, typewriter or sheet of paper and write.

Get your ass in gear and get going.
